Bern-based composer and sound designer



Demian's work includes compositions and sound design for instruments and electronics, sound installations, as well as movies and dance performances. In doing so, he addresses social issues and engages in sound research. He studied music and media art at the Bern University of the Arts and has been working as a freelance artist and sound engineer ever since.

«RUMINANT 4444» is a surreal pet game experience in which players find themselves in a wasteland called Rumina. They are forced to rear a great number of creatures, so-called Virions, within four days – each time in the same order and with the correct tools. Complete their life cycle over and over again to prevent disaster and apologise to Laetitia.

Cows graze atop rolling hills, the Säntis cable car glides towards the mountain station, and behind it, 2.5 million light years away, the Andromeda Nebula shimmers. In Urnäsch, winter is drawing in: the local butcher cutting the last geraniums from their window boxes and the men’s choir is rehearsing. But when the streetlights go out, leaving only the stars twinkling above, the village youth gather and dreams of other worlds are discussed.

A visual diary that explores the invisible spaces in the life of a woman who follows her husband to Switzerland to join her family. With the relocation, she loses the foundation of her previous identity and is torn from familiar structures. What remains is a void that manifests in the loneliness of household and childcare work. She begins to question her own role and critically analyse the systemic invisibility imposed on women like her.

Es ist der Geist des Ortes, der zwischen Verfall und Vergessen schwebt. Flüsternd streift er durch die Zettelsammlung auf dem Schreibtisch und verharrt im ascheüberzogenen Weinglas. Zurück bleibt fruchtbare Erde, die den Raum mit neuem Leben füllt.

In the near future, Susana's fiancé Marco decides to have a chip implanted in his brain. Marco, who suffers from severe depression and has professional problems as a result, sees this new technology as his only chance, not to lose touch. Susana, who originally drew his attention to the chip, soon begins to have doubts, when Marco begins to change dramatically.

Nothing is for eternity. Not even places that seem to outlast time. With Temporary Contemporary, director and filmmaker Oliver Brand impressively stages this transience by turning it into a stage for contemporary dancers. In doing so, he creates a moving testimony to the ephemeral nature of places that are in precisely that state only on the day the film is shot. The sounddesign was created during an internship at Idee und Klang Audio Design.
